THIS WEEK'S SONG IS NORWEGIAN WOOD Click on song title to see and hear video.
I recently watched Hitchcock's "Vertigo" and David Lynch's "Mulholland Drive" on the big screenof the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville. It was interesting to see how much Lynch (and every director worth their salt) took from Hitchcock. They call it a tribute, or borrowing, but we all know what it is and that is stealing from the best. As Picasso said, "good artists borrow, great artists steal," or something like this. I have used the Norwegian Wood chord formation and the notion that you can pick the melody while you sing it for quite a few of my songs. Black Dog, Peace Of Mind, Special 20...these three some to mind. I think "Man That You Need" is another. Anyway, the other thing I crimped from Lennon, who is doing quite the Dylan imitation here, is that you can leave a lot out of the lyrics and still tell a full story.
Here is my take on Norwegian Wood, recorded Tuesday, January 3rd, 2023 at my home in Nashville.
I will be posting every Tuesday on my YouTube channel. My Patreon page subscribers get the track as a downloadable song which they can add to their music library. I send a lot of covers and originals to this page which is available at this link.
Thanks for you support.
